The majority of our beneficiaries are severely wounded or sick when they are accommodated in the Maison Chance shelter. Most of them are disabled as a result of accidents (paraplegic, quadriplegic), as opposed to being born handicapped.

|
Contrary to those born handicapped living in a stable manner, the handicapped victims of accidents suffer permanently from inherent complications due to their paralysis. They regularly have to deal with bedsores due to loss of skin sensitivity, chronic urinary infections, kidney stones, and various other health problems. Specific care and rigorous monitoring are essential for their survival.

Basic medical care is ensured at the Maison Chance shelter, as well as functional rehabilitation. For more intensive treatment: dialysis, surgical operations of the bedsores, catheter insertions; patients must be hospitalized. Maison Chance pays the expenses of these hospitalizations since Vietnam does not a have a universal health insurance covering work related injuries.

Our disabled residents also receive care from a physiotherapist, who includes re-education in their treatment.
