When Life Skills Become A Shield Of Protection

How can children recognize abusive behavior? When they are in danger, how should they respond, and whom should they turn to for help? These seemingly simple yet deeply practical questions opened the Child Abuse Prevention session a meaningful program designed to equip children with the knowledge and essential skills needed to identify risks and protect themselves. Joining and guiding the session was guest speaker Mr. Tran Minh Hai, M.A., whose approachable teaching style and use of real-life situations captured the children’s attention and encouraged their active participation throughout the program.

At the Primary School

The children listened attentively, eagerly raising their hands to share their thoughts and answer questions. Many of them also took careful notes of the key points discussed. Their focus, enthusiasm, and willingness to engage made the session even more lively and meaningful.

At the Shelter

In a different format, the children were divided into groups to discuss hypothetical situations and explore appropriate responses when facing potential abuse. During the group activities, they actively exchanged ideas, listened to one another, and worked together to find safe solutions. Each group then presented its discussion and shared key takeaways with everyone.

Beyond simply providing information, the session helped the children understand that protecting themselves is extremely important. When children learn to recognize warning signs, trust their feelings, and speak up with confidence, they are also helping to build a safer and healthier environment for children and adolescents.

Notably, the program at Maison Chance is part of a broader initiative to bring child abuse prevention skills to many schools and communities, made possible through the support of a special donor. Our heartfelt thanks go to both the donor and the speaker for making this meaningful and impactful program possible.
